Tap Dance makes an excellent basis for an exercise class. Balance and posture; working through the ankles and knees; counting the beats and feeling rhythm; and responding to the music. Not only is this a great way to keep fit, but it is guaranteed to put a smile on your face too. Just think about some of those remarkable routines from film or the theatre, and the wide range of music.
The big crashing time-steps of Broadway Baby; Fred and Ginger amid the flying feathers; Gene Kelly and Mickey Mouse; Donald O’Connor in “Be A Clown”; Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, and the list goes on. Tap in the modern world is just as bright and has even more ‘wow-factor’ with shows like ‘Tap Dogs’.
THURSDAY, at the Motcombe Memorial Hall, SP7 9PE
